User Interface Designer

Edelman & Associates is an executive search and technical recruiting firm. Our client is a leading provider of digital media asset management and distribution services. They are looking for a User Interface Designer who will be a member of their Product Management group. As UI Designer, you will translate requirements into web-based and desktop application interfaces that are easy to use and aesthetically appealing to a wide, dynamic audience of advertising and media professionals.

Job Responsibilities

• Translate business and software requirements into highly intuitive, graphically appealing web-based and desktop applications
• Determine user workflows, create wire frames, design screen layouts, conduct usability testing, and create graphical elements
• Represent the user perspective and ensure usability in all stages of product development
• Write functional and design specifications to communicate the UI Design to Engineering and other stakeholders in the company
• Take on additional responsibilities in the Product Management group as needed, including writing business requirements documents, product documentation, and customer communications
• Assume project management duties when required
• Work with Product Managers and stakeholders to build proof-of-concept prototypes for new business opportunities

Required Qualifications

• Natural aptitude for and knowledge of User Interface design principles, human factors, user-centered design, and usability methodologies
• Demonstrated success designing cross-browser, cross-platform, dynamic web applications; solid understanding of related technologies such as HTML and CSS
• Experience designing, creating mockups for, and guiding the development of Windows-based desktop applications or Java applications
• Hands-on experience with all stages of the software development lifecycle
• Ability to accurately and succinctly communicate designs in written and verbal form
• Skilled at creating graphics for web and desktop applications
• Proficiency with various design tools (e.g., Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, Visio, Dreamweaver)
• Ability to thrive with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment that requires multi-tasking
• 2 years’ experience designing commercial software applications

Desired Qualities

• Experience with XSL, ASP, and JavaScript
• Ability to write complex business requirements, documentation, and web copy
• Knowledge of audio/visual editing tools, broadcasting, or print production
• Knowledge of Macintosh operating systems
• Degree in Graphic Design, HCI, Cognitive Psychology, or related field.
