Usability Engineer

The position of Usability Engineer will be an integral member of CSC's
netXperience group that specializes in User Experience disciplines and
contributes tsolutions serving commercial, non-profit and government
clients.
Responsibilities:
We are looking for a Web-savvy individual whcan plan and execute
usability techniques throughout the user experience project lifecycle for
Web-based solutions. This Usability Engineer will be responsible for:
- Gathering, reviewing, and prioritizing project requirements in collaboration with business and technical teams
- Defining user needs, preferences, and behaviors through qualitative and quantitative research/analysis
- Documenting usability goals, recommendations and standards/guidelines at appropriate intervals in the project lifecycle
- Designing and prototyping user interfaces (typically in HTML) Conducting remote and onsite usability testing at various points in the design process (and post-launch)
- Collaborating with creative teams and Web developers tbuild the front-end interface
- Providing close attention tdetail in quality reviews tensure proper integration of the UI with back-end functionality
- Conducting usability (heuristic) evaluations and presenting results as a finished report and/or in PPT presentations
- Supporting sales teams and representing CSC's usability capabilities to potential or current clients
- Collaborating with the rest of the user experience group texpand, evolve and update techniques, work products and deliverables treflect latest trends and best practices.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the role of Usability Engineer will offer a unique
blend of experience, skills and education, such as:
Experience:
6-8 years in UI design (should include 4-5 years of Web-specific UI
design)
- HTML/CSS expertise required
- Dreamweaver MX experience preferred
- Creation of interaction design prototypes in multiple formats/media
- Familiar with latest usability testing tools/technology required
- Experience designing and testing for ADA/Section 508 compliance
- Seasoned facilitator of focus groups and user testing sessions
- Familiar with various techniques and best practices for qualitative and quantitative analysis
- Strong business writing skills (e.g., persuasive writing, analytical documentation and reports)
- Cross-industry exposure
- Exposure to global solutions with multilingual components
- Active member of associations
Skills & Key Attributes:
Web-savvy, analytical, detail oriented, strong presentation and writing
skills, comfortable with fast-paced environment & deadline-oriented work.
Education:
BS Human Factors Engineering or related field (e.g., Computer-Human
Interaction, Cognitive Psychology)
Optional:
- Has been published on UE topics
- Has presented as UE expert at industry conferences
- Multilingual
- UE Certification or other graduate level work
