Senior User Interface Designer/Analyst
Lexington, MA
The Clearing Corporation is looking for an experienced designer to lead the user interface design efforts for our applications. We are looking for someone to play a senior role in our cross-functional development organization.
Job Responsibilities
Will engage in all interaction design aspects for all of our Web-based software application systems, with primary responsibility for one or more of these systems. Includes a combination of designing new systems, designing new features for existing systems, and redesigning existing features. Primary focus is on designing the user interface, with occasional involvement in business analysis (designing the business logic behind the UI).
- Interviewing users and creating user profiles.
- Meeting with customers and internal stakeholders to elicit requirements, and again later on to elicit feedback on designs.
- Defining and interpreting business and user requirements.
- Some paper prototyping.
- Preparing and conducting participatory design sessions and usability tests, analyzing the results and incorporating into designs.
- Defining interaction standards and conventions.
- Brainstorming and deciding on concepts for site organization and navigation systems.
- Performing user task analysis and defining screen flows.
- Creating and maintaining information architectures, including site maps.
- Documenting screen layout details (“wireframes”).
- Writing detailed functional specifications for designed GUI behaviors.
- Providing support for your designs throughout the project development lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of and strong appreciation for usability principles and user-centered design (UCD) techniques, including usability testing.
- Familiarity with and interest in financial markets and/or trading systems. Commercial experience designing financial systems a plus.
- Proficient with Visio, Illustrator, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other tools for documenting interaction designs.
- Comfortable working with HTML editing tools as well as raw HTML code a plus
- Working knowledge of advanced Web technologies, including JavaScript, JSP, Servlets, DHTML, XML.
- Comfortable working on a PC/Windows system; some familiarity with Unix a plus.
- Familiarity with relational databases, object-oriented design, and the Java programming language a plus.
- Self-motivated; able to work independently with minimal direction.
- Effective working in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.
- Strong oral, written, and visual communication abilities, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Some travel required, in the U.S. and abroad (possibly up to 10% of the time).
- Minimum BS/BA degree (MS/MA preferred) in HCI, Human Factors, or related discipline.
