Research and Interaction Design Specialist
eBay, Inc. San Jose, CA

Job Responsibilities

The Research Labs are building a team of industry leaders to create the vision of ecommerce for years to come. We are composed of people from various disciplines such as information retrieval, capacity planning, data mining, and computer science. We concentrate on the evolution of ideas and build prototypes to showcase these ideas for the business.

  • Develop interfaces for prototypes and internal tools that effectively demonstrate the underlying technology
  • Support both the full-time staff of the Research Labs and rotating researchers that will be working as part of the team
  • Carry out their own research in the fields of user interaction and user testing
  • Establish research relationships with other private and academic research institutions
  • Publish and present interesting findings from their research

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional design experience
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science or related field.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent understanding of user experience design for the Web, demonstrable design skills, and ability to show relevant work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in small and large groups, to all levels of the organization, as well as outside of the organization.
  • Proven ability to work and coordinate with multiple groups, including business owners, product managers, creative designers, usability engineers, software developers, and senior executives.
  • A research background is preferred.
