User Experience Designer

Motricity is looking for a User Experience Designer to join its Product Management Group to provide interaction and visual design for software and systems that are used by some of the world's largest wireless carriers and brands to deliver content and applications to hundreds of millions of phones and other mobile devices. This individual must have the ability to work with carrier customers, product managers, client services and Engineering to understand and address their requirements while meeting and exceeding expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

Motricity is looking for a User Experience Designer to join its Product Management Group to provide interaction and visual design for software and systems that are used by some of the world's largest wireless carriers and brands to deliver content and applications to hundreds of millions of phones and other mobile devices. This individual must have the ability to work with carrier customers, product managers, client services and Engineering to understand and address their requirements while meeting and exceeding expectations.

• Work closely with product managers to design and architect user experiences for consumer based mobile device storefronts, consumer web-based storefronts and enterprise CMS web-based interfaces.
• Design and create user experience architecture diagrams (site maps, task flows) and wireframes.
• Visual design of look and feel for mobile devices and web interfaces.
• Write user interface specifications detailing user interface designs; style guides detailing visual design, etc.
• Create low/high fidelity prototypes in xHTML/CSS/Flash.
• Work with development during implementation.
• Assist in user research and usability testing of user interfaces.
• Contribute ideas for improving processes and deliverables.
• Knowledge and experience designing for a wide variety of interfaces including mobile interfaces, web interfaces and client software interfaces.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ year college degree in Human Computer Interaction or related degree.
• Solid visual design and interaction design skills.
• A portfolio demonstrating experience in designing usable interfaces, this may be an online or printed portfolio.
• Prepare a story with your examples that explains what design goals you had to achieve, the obstacles in your way and some of the thought process that got you to your final design.
• Minimum of 4+ years of experience in GUI design, interaction design and visual design in a professional environment.
• Minimum 2+ years designing web interfaces for enterprise/consumer applications.
• Minimum 1+ years experience designing applications for mobile devices.
• Experience with User Centered Design (UCD) process and working collaboratively on teams.
• Strong oral, written, presentation and organizational skills.
• Ability to assess customer needs and design solutions.
• Must be a self-starter with strong problem solving skills and switch rapidly between various projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with Visio, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, xHTML and CSS.

Desired Experience

• MS in Human Computer Interaction or MFA in Interactive Design.
• Strong production skills with xHTML, Javascript, CSS, Flash, DHTML.
• 2+ years mobile device interaction design experience.
• Strong project management skills.
• Domain expertise in one or more relevant technology areas, including:
  • Mobile client development (J2ME, Symbian, Microsoft Smartphone)
  • Mobile content technologies (WAP/WML, WAP 2.0/XHTML, SMS, EMS, MMS)
  • Content Management & Delivery.
  • e-Commerce, Business Intelligence, and CRM Technologies.
