Designer, Merchant Applications
Want your work to impact thousands of merchants, who affect millions of people? Join the Merchant Applications team at Amazon.com as a full-time UI designer, working directly with developers and product managers to help create Web based user interfaces and online applications for merchants to list, sell and manage their products on Amazon.com. Our mission is to increase selection in our global catalog by providing frictionless applications that make it fun and easy for merchants to sell on the Amazon platform. Users range from large international corporations to individuals with a single product to sell. The value of your work is quantifiable. If the speed of feedback from merchants doesn’t excite you, the influence on Amazon’s bottom line will. Successful candidates must be good at multi-tasking and time management. We need a highly motivated, self-directed, enthusiastic person with a sense of humor and a sharp mind who works well under pressure and can thrive in an atmosphere of rapid development. Tasks will vary in scope. To succeed, the designer needs to be able to hone in on details while architecting and managing the long term design vision. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for the end-user -- able to educate technical teams on user-centered design principles and to direct design reviews and brainstorming sessions with other team members and/or business owners. Applicants should have experience mapping out and simplifying information architecture of complex tasks, a solid understanding of the design process from concept to completion, and the ability to interpret complex business rules while finding the best solution to meet the goals of the business without comprising the experience of the user. In addition, they should be very familiar with the limitations and unique design considerations of web-based UIs. Applicants will have at least 5 years of Web UI experience designing complex web application user interfaces. Experience in e-commerce and with task based pipelines is preferred. HTML, Visio (or other IA mapping tool), Photoshop and CSS are required. Javascript and DHTML strongly preferred. Experience with Flash, Illustrator & Dreamweaver are a plus.
