User Interface Designer

It's a smart move.  We are currently searching for two UI Designers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with existing team to develop UI specifications and document
  • visual and interaction design    specifications for website standards and application interfaces.
  • Document visual and interaction design specifications for website
  • standards and application interfaces.
  • Create and document Style guides for our application and website standards in a team of Interaction designers.
  • Perform the following specific tasks:
    • Create Test plans, facilitate usability tests, analyze results, and present recommendations.
    • Follow User Centric Design methodology, processes and artifact creation.
    • Follow web site and application SDLC for projects.
    • Project types include all web channels for customer facing websites (internet/extranet) as well as web development of custom applications for internal employees (intranet applications). 
    • The new modifications will need to: 
      a) Adhere to the current look-and-feel of the existing applications. 
      b) Not degrade the usability of the system as new elements are introduced.  
      c) Create style guides and document user interface designs.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to develop UI Specifications Document (which will serve as style guide document and also as schematics documents for engineers). Ability to document visual and interaction design specification for website standards and application interfaces.
  • Ability to create New Screens Design adhering to FFIC style guide standards.
  • Ability to facilitate Storyboarding - including ability to hand draw comps and flows during collaborative team session.
  • Ability to conduct and train others on usability testing.
  • Ability to perform expert review / QA against original screen designs.
  • Knowledgeable in user-centered design (UCD/HCI/UX).
  • Ability to lead / facilitate screen design sessions with both Business (non-technical) and technical participants.
  • Demonstrate excellent communications and be a team player who must be able to function under tight turnarounds, rapid iterations with a high level of collaboration.
  • Knowledgeable with the following toolset:  Windows 2000/XP, Visio, Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Snag it Screen Capture, Dream Weaver. Ability to create test plan, facilitate usability testing, analyze results and present recommendations to UX team and project teams.

Skills that are a plus:

  • Ability to create visual comps storyboard upon being provided high level use cases / process flows.
  • Ability to prototype for Usability Testing (most likely PowerPoint slides/paper prototype).
  • Ability to hand code (X)HTML including work with dirty (screen-scrapped) HTML.
  • Ability to hand code CSS-2.
  • Working experience with Fireworks, Techsmith Morae, & iRise. Clear understanding of Insurance Industry.
  • A Bachelor's degree in related field such as cognitive science, visual design, information science/design, or HCI, MS or C.U.A. a plus.
  • 3-5 years experience in one or more of the following areas: interactive media design, web design, graphic design, software UI design.
  • At least one year experience with designing organization and navigation systems for large scale Web sites and Web applications; e-commerce experience a significant plus.
