From the Editor Judy Cantor Welcome to Internetworking 3.2! In this issue, we have some very interesting articles. Denny LeCompte wrote the article that I have been meaning to write for some time now. It questions the legitimacy of using Miller's 1956 article on the magic of 7+/-2 to define rules for user interface design. Although it is clear that the human memory is severely limited, 7+/-2 is not a reasonable measure of short term memory, and is less relevant to the number of links on a page, or items in a menu, or colors on the screen. Katherine Adams describes why considerations of taxonomy are vital to information architecture and design. Understanding the structure of information, its order and meaning, provides a valuable tool for designing and easy to use experience. And to round out our articles, Susan Pearsall describes an approach to collecting user feedback that is dynamic, and builds on earlier information provided by the user. The "Cognitive Clinical Interview" provides a method for extracting rich information from users. Once again, Pawan has provided another useful workshop, this one focusing on quick design design tips for enhancing HTML pages. This will be an ongoing series to which we can all contribute. Please send us your design tips and we will maintain a growing list. We hope that you enjoy this latest issue, and please continue to send articles, summaries, book reviews, and commentaries.
