WHAT'S NEW?

From the Chair's Desk
Pawan Vora, pvora@mindspring.com

Another year has come to an end... and I'm proud to say that it was quite successful for ITG and Internetworking. ITG's membership grew to 1400+ (and is still growing) and we successfully put together three issues of Internetworking. The 5th hf/Web conference was a tremendous success. More than 300 people participated and we got excellent press coverage. Thanks to Sharon Laskowski and Judy Cantor for all their efforts.

Here's what we are planning for the coming years. Next year's hf/Web Conference (6th) will be held in Austin, Texas co-sponsored by SBC and IBM. Visit the conference Web site and get ready to submit your proposals. For the year 2001, we are planning to organize a conference in France. Marco Botta is working with the local universities to make it happen. We're also looking into organizing future conferences in Southeast Asia. We'll keep you posted.

Any resolutions for the next year? I mean the ones you can keep... at least for a few months :-) I have one for you: Submit articles, reviews (of both books and technology), workshops, and opinions to Internetworking and hf/Web conferences. As you all know, Internet has given us a lot. It's time to give something back to the Internet. No! Don't tell me you're going to give away money to those eCommerce sites instead. I'm sure many of you already have. I have, too! Then why not share your good and bad experiences with the rest of us. I have had my share of experiences and I'm sure you have as well. Send them to me at pvora@mindspring.com and I'll share them with others in the next issue of Internetworking.

No one has asked me to make any predictions for the year 2000. And I won't :-) But there is one technology that I believe you should take a "sniff" at. It's DigiScents! If you haven't heard about this, check out DigiScents's Web site. Soon we'll be able to download smell using our computers. And you thought downloading multimedia information was fun!

That's all for now! See you all happy and healthy in the next millenium!

Wish you all happy holidays and a meaningful new year!
