![]() WHAT'S NEW?
From the Chair's Desk First of all, please accept my apologies for not getting Internetworking 2.2 out on time. I can give you a list of excuses for the delay. But the main reason for is that I changed jobs. I left U S WEST in June and joined NexTag.com -- an Internet startup. The company is located in San Mateo, California and for the most part I telecommute from Denver, Colorado. Before I changed jobs, I did attend the 5th hf/Web conference at National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland. We did well! Thanks to the excellent work by Sharon Laskowski (Conference Chair, NIST) and Judy Cantor (Conference In-charge, ITG). I would also like to thank the conference sponsors -- AT&T Labs, Oracle Corporation, the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD), and Bell Atlantic -- and many volunteers and reviewers who made the conference successful. We had the largest number of attendees so far (approx. 325). And, importantly, the hf/Web conference received a brief blurb in The Washington Post. Also, we received coverage in the Washington Technology section (July 5): User Friendly Web Needs Rigorous Study The conference featured 11 presentations, which were organized into four categories: Web design research, models and methods for improving Web sites, and Web applications. The presentations were both insightful and thought-provoking. If you didn't attend, I'd encourage you to view the conference proceedings online at the 5th hf/Web conference Web site. I'd also like to invite you all to the 43rd Annual Meeting of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, which will be held in Houston, Texas from Sep 27 to Oct 1, 1999. Thanks to our Program Chair, Gavin Lew (gavin.s.lew@ameritech.com), ITG will have an impressive show at this year's annual meeting. If you think I am exaggerating, just see the program that he has put together. Finally, I'd like to urge you to submit more of your work to ITG. Although we were late in putting this issue out, I'd like to still put out a total of 4 issues of Internetworking this year. That's why I have changed the submission date for the next issue to be September 24, 1999. If we get all the submissions by then, we can get the next issue out by mid-October. We will then be ready for the next issue of Internetworking by the end of the year. We don't want to rest easy now. With your help, I'd like to make ITG an enviable site on the Internet. Personally, I am going to look into how we can make ITG Web site more interactive for the year 2000. I'll keep you posted. © Internet Technical Group Last update: August 15, 1999 URL: http://www.sandia.gov/itg/newsletter/jun99/from_the_chair.html hosted by Sandia National Labs Disclaimer: Neither Sandia Corporation, the United States Government, nor any agency thereof, nor any of their employees makes any warranty, express or implied, or assumes any legal liability or responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information, apparatus, product, or process disclosed, or represents that its use would not infringe privately-owned rights.
