ZDNet's Information on E-commerce
"When he tried to enter 05/01 as an expiration date for his credit card, the site told him the date was not valid and that his card had expired."
Recently, there was an interesting feature at ZDNet's AnchorDesk that described "Stupid Ecommerce Tricks: Five Real Ways Top Web Sites Drive Customers Away". More interesting than the article were the comments from ZDNet readers. Referring to these comments and others like them might help site developers avoid making bad blunders. One person described an e-commerce Y2K problem. When he tried to enter 05/01 as an expiration date for his credit card, the site told him the date was not valid and that his card had expired. Another person complained about e-commerce sites that "make the customer fill in their name, address, etc. before totalling the order. Second when the order is totalled, you find out they are going to hit you hard on shipping charges to make up for their 'low' prices." Besides this interesting article at AnchorDesk, the E-CommerceUser section at ZDNet currently contains links to information about the importance of providing free content, as well as a review of three books that offer guidance on e-commerce security.
